Thailand defeated Vietnam 2-1 to finish top of Group A of the AFC Futsal Asian Cup at the Indoor Stadium Hua Mark on Sunday night.

The defeat, however, did not prevent Vietnam from also advancing as they finished second ahead of Myanmar on goal difference, with both teams tied on four points.

Thailand got the first goal in the 12th minute when Muhammad Osamanmusa found the back of the net courtesy of Jirawat Sornwichian's assist. He converted on his second attempt, turning away from his marker before slotting past Vietnamese goalkeeper Ho Van Y.

The Vietnamese equalised only 30 seconds after the restart to restore parity when Thinh Phat played the ball on for Tu Minh Quang, who squeezed his shot through the legs of Thailand goalkeeper Arut Senbat.

Thailand, however, regained the lead in the 30th minute through Worasak Srirangpirot, who initiated the move down the left before finishing off from just above the box.

Thailand finished with nine points and headed into the quarter-finals with a perfect record, while Vietnam took the second spot with four points, tied with Myanmar, but the Vietnamese have a better goal difference to advance into the knockout stage.

Thailand will face Iraq, the runners-up of Group B, while Vietnam will take on Uzbekistan, the winners of Group B in the quarter-finals.

Angels keep pace

A late goal from Bangkok United captain Everton Goncalves helped his team stay in title contention as they edged Nakhon Pathom United 2-1 in a Thai League 1 game on Sunday night.

The Angels now trail leaders Buriram United by three points. Hosts Nakhon Pathom took the lead in the 39th minute when Taku Ito set up Leslie Ablorh.

Bangkok equalised after 69 minutes when Vander Luis connected with a Bassel Jradi cross before Everton produced the winner only moments before the final whistle.

In another match on Sunday night, Muang Thong United came back from one goal down to pick up three points at their home ground with a 2-1 victory over Lamphun Warriors.

PT Prachuap also recorded 2-1 victory at home on Sunday night when they edged Sukhothai.
